Central Bank of Liberia HQ
On July 23, 2015 President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf officially dedicated the US$21 million Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) Headquarters on Ashmun Street, Monrovia.
The President said, “We are here to participate in this historic milestone, in the fulfillment of our steadfast efforts to transform our country and we will continue to challenge those in the public and private sectors [to forge ahead] in the development of our country.”
The country, she said, depends on the vision, leadership and participation of all. The nation’s goals and targets are achieved only when everyone plays his or her part.
Ellen Johnson Sirleaf:
I am seventy-eight years old. I have been fighting Liberia's battles for more than half a century – all my adult life – and our nation's struggles have blended into and are indistinguishable from my own. I have been a witness as our country has gone from civil unrest, dictatorship, anarchy and war; from the abuse of children conscripted as soldiers, pervasive sexual violence, and economic collapse; and then, finally, to peace, elections, development, and an open and dynamic civil society.
And now, this year, 2017, we will witness an historic transfer of power, providing the basis for consolidation of post-conflict democracy; where the future will be transferred to the next generation of Liberians – a people empowered through education, new technologies, and the experience of having battled and defeated one of the world's deadliest diseases.
Today, I come to take stock of these past eleven years, during which I have had the privilege to be your President. It is not my intent to go over a laundry list of our achievements, because I know that in an atmosphere where there is still poverty, want and deprivation, these milestones will ring hollow.
A Promise Fulfilled: Liberian Government Breaks Ground for New Terminal Building at Roberts International Airport!
The Government of Liberia has signed a US$50 Million loan agreement with China Exim Bank for the construction of a new terminal building at the Roberts International Airport (RIA).
Chinese Ambassador to Liberia Zhang Yue said the Loan Agreement signing ceremony for rehabilitation is an immediate follow-up project following the visit of President Sirleaf to China sometimes ago, when the rehabilitation of the Roberts International Airport was high on their agenda, during bilateral talks.
Ambassador Zhang Yue indicated that it was during the height of the outbreak of Ebola in the country, that he became aware of how the free flow of people is very much important. He said the project, at the cost $50 million, when completed will accommodate approximately 32,000 persons and their logistics.
